In kings' byways Stanley John Weyman 9781176728875 Books
Enjoyable stories mostly concerning events in France during the revolution or concerning political, religious, or social strife during the 16th or 17th centuries. As most of his books or stories there are comments, statements, sayings, exclamations, or other adlibs throughout the various stories written in Latin, French, or even Spanish. Words like "Fauteuil" meaning chair in French and or foil in Latin and "Dieu benisse" meaning God Bless in French. "Sang Froid" meaning cool in French. "Solo cum sola" meaning when alone in Latin. "Mort de Dieu" meaning death of God in French. "Militaires" other spelling for Military which was obvious.
At least two, possibly more, of the stories can be read either individually; i.e., "For the Cause" and "Snowball". I skipped over the first and actually reread "The Snowball". Most of the stories have a humorous ending or event, but not all. Only one of the stories, actually reflects comments or items from a later time period.
